3 years ago, I was asked for content for a show at Deutsche Welle called ‘Sports Life’, with 12-minute documentary portraits of athletes facing a challenge. It was natural to me to search for stories within the most inspiring community I know, the differently-abled. I offered the story of Lydia Sempere, who was born deaf and had the dream of becoming a race driver. DW supported my idea and it became a beautiful film. I made 6 more movies on the topic of differently-abled people, and I last week I was sent to Paris to cover the Paralympic Games. It was a superb experience, where I got highly inspired, and the main takeaway is that whilst most people spend our time thinking what we miss in life, what we don’t have, what we cannot do...Paralympic Athletes look at life the other way around: this the body I have, what can I do with it? What can I achieve?

I got a few grey days, challenging for photography, an art that lives out of light. Voilá! C’est Paris! The first time that I visited Paris I came hitchhiking after 2 weeks traveling around France. It was late at night and a very nice French young man had picked us up at a gas station. After driving during two hours we were finally approaching Paris. I was in the front seat and as we were coming out of a long tunnel, he looked at me in the eyes and said ‘Voilá! C’est Paris!’…I looked in front and I saw the majestic Eiffel Tower standing grandiosely. Yesterday I attended an amazing concert of Orka Teppler. It was a really beautiful and special experience which made me travel very deep within. Then, suddenly I knew she was familiar to me. When I went home, I found the documentary movie I shot for Ancient Trance in 2022, with Orka’s beautiful singing as soundtrack of the most emotional part of the film. I feel incredibly fortunate of having a job I am so passionate about, which offers me the opportunity to keep on learning and meeting incredible people, artists and events. Discovering Ancient Trance was a life-changing experience to me. They asked me to make an aftermovie (which normally lasts 2 minutes) and I ended up making a 30-minute documentary film. There, I discovered that it existed what so long I was searching for and dreaming of: a way to live where children can grow free and happy in families that keep on playing, dancing, singing and celebrating life always; a community based in principles of consciousness, peace and love. Ever since, no matter how I feel or where I am, I can always connect back to the tribe listening to this enchanting music.

Es un privilegio enorme acompañar a un grupo de payasos con la misión tan noble de invertir su talento, tiempo e ilusión en hacer reír a quien lo necesita. No me cabe ninguna duda de que el mundo sería un lugar mejor si todos riéramos más, así que espero que este proyecto, además de haber arrancado carcajadas en decenas de niños marroquíes, también sirva para inspirar a relativizar, a restar importancia a las cosas y a mirar el lado positivo y divertido de las personas y de la vida, porque un día sin reír, es un día perdido.
